FAQs

What is a children’s savings account?

Savings accounts that are specifically for children (under 18).

They're a great way to teach your kids healthy money habits and help them build a savings pot for the future!

How do I pay in to a children’s account?

Either by bank transfer, cash or cheque.

Who controls the account?

This depends on the type of account.

Junior ISAs - If you’re a parent or guardian, you can set up a JISA for your child until they turn 17. If your child is 16 or 17, they can open a JISA on their own. When your child turns 16, they can choose to take over managing their JISA. But they’ll only be able to access their money once they turn 18.

Young Savers - Our Young Saver account is for young people aged 7-17 to manage their money themselves.

You can find out more about managing these accounts here: Children's account opening guide | Savings help

Are children’s savings accounts safe?

Like our other savings accounts, our children’s savings accounts are protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). The FSCS will protect up to £120,000 of any eligible deposits you have with us.

If the amount you have saved goes over this limit, the extra amount is unlikely to be protected.
