This mini Privacy Notice gives you a brief overview of how we manage your data. This includes what personal information we’ll hold, where we get it from, why we need it, who we share it with, how long we keep it for and what your data protection rights are.

What personal information do we hold?

Personal details such as your name, address, contact details , date of birth, National Insurance number. This could also include biometric information, like your voice print for ID purposes, where you have given consent for this.  
Personal information we’ve gathered so we can open and operate an account for you, such as ID documents, application forms and employment information.
Financial details such as your savings or mortgage details, other bank or building society accounts, income, commitments, credit history, expenditure and tax status.
Records of the accounts you hold or held with us, your interactions with us through any of our channels and any other information we may obtain during our relationship with you. 

Where do we get your personal information from?  

Most of the information we hold will come directly from you or as a result of your interactions with us.

 

In some instances, we may collect some information from third parties such as credit reference agencies, fraud prevention agencies or your employer (if you’re applying for a mortgage with us).

Why do we need your personal information? 

To set up and run accounts and services for you, we need specific details.

 

If you don’t give us the information we need, or if you don’t allow us to ‘process’ your information, we can’t open an account or set up a service for you. 

The main reasons we need your information is so we can:

  • Open and operate accounts and services for you
  • Communicate with you about the accounts and services you have with us
  • Detect and prevent fraud
  • Fulfil our legal and regulatory obligations.

Who do we share your information with?  

Sometimes we may need to share your information with other people or businesses. We’ll only do this where there is a lawful reason to do so and where it’s in line with our full Privacy Notice. We’ll also make sure they look after it just like we would.

 

We may share information for tax reporting services, for fraud detection and prevention or with suppliers who process information on behalf of the Society. 

What are the data protection rights?         

You have a number of rights relating to the personal information that we hold about you.

These rights are:

  • The right to be informed about the processing of your personal information (our Privacy Notices)
  • The right to have your personal information corrected if it is inaccurate and to have incomplete personal information completed
  • The right to object to the processing of your personal information
  • The right to restrict processing of your personal information
  • The right to erasure (also called the right to be forgotten)
  • The right of access to your personal information and to obtain information about how we process it
  • The right to move, copy or transfer your personal information (the right to portability)
  • Rights related to automated decision making, including profiling, which has a legal effect on or significantly affects you. 

 

You can make a request in relation to your rights at any time. However, some of these rights are only available in specific circumstances and sometimes we won’t be able to complete your request because of another obligation or exemption. 

How long do we keep your information?

Keeping your personal information safe and secure is important to us. We’ll keep your information secure for as long as we legally need it and no longer.
