The Renters' Rights Act: what landlords need to know

From 1 May 2026, the Renters’ Rights Act changes how private renting works in England. It brings more security for tenants and places new obligations on landlords.

As a Coventry Building Society mortgage member, we’re here to support you. We want to make managing your mortgage as simple and straightforward as possible.

On this page, you can explore your options, whether that’s switching your mortgage, borrowing more or exploring our range of help pages.

Frequently asked questions

What is a product transfer and how do I do it?

A product transfer (or switch) is moving your current Coventry Building Society mortgage onto a new deal with us.

We'll get in touch four months before your deal ends. This is to give you time to look at your options. You can secure a new deal within those four months, with the flexibility to update it later if needed.

As an existing member, you’ll have access to rates that are as good as – or better than – those offered to new customers.

Many people choose to switch because it’s quick and straightforward. You can apply online or speak to our friendly team, who’ll be happy to talk you through your options.

I want to pay more towards my mortgage

If you pay extra towards your mortgage, the amount you pay will determine whether it’s treated as a capital repayment or an overpayment.

If you’d like to make extra payment(s) on your mortgage, please call us first on 0800 121 8899 to discuss your options. Early Repayment Charges (ERCs) may apply.

I want to borrow more on my mortgage

You might need some help to pay for essentials like home repairs or improvements. As long as you can afford it and you're within our Loan to Value (LTV) criteria, you could apply to borrow more money.

To borrow more, you must have had your mortgage with us for at least six months and made six consecutive monthly payments.

If you want to borrow more to make energy-efficient changes, we have a dedicated range and incentive for you.

Difficulties paying my mortgage - what can I do?

We're here to help if you’ve missed a mortgage payment or you’re worried you will. We know it can be hard to talk about money, but the sooner you get in touch, the more time we’ll have to support you.

Please call us on 0800 121 8899 to discuss your options. If you'd prefer to see what options we have before calling, please read our payment difficulties page.
