The browser is the software that allows you to access the internet.
Our website works with the latest browsers:
- Internet Explorer 8, 9 and 11
- Google Chrome 23 and above
- Firefox 13 and above
We strongly recommend using the latest browser version available for your operating system.
If you want to use Online Services, it's important that you enable certain settings on your PC:
Usually this is set up on your computer by default. It’s often used to make web pages interactive and improve your experience.
We take your right to privacy very seriously. We won’t disclose information about you or your accounts to anyone, other than where we have your consent, or where we’re compelled or allowed by law to do so.
Most browsers are set up to allow cookies automatically. However, if you’ve changed your settings, we recommend you accept cookies from us (www.coventrybuildingsociety.co.uk) because this allows our website to work more efficiently and also you won’t be able to login if cookies are disabled.
A ‘pop-up’ is any page that appears in a new or 'pop-up' window, usually over the top of the page you’re viewing. A ‘pop-up blocker’ prevents this happening.
We recommend that you enable pop-ups from us (www.coventrybuildingsociety.co.uk) because you’ll find it easier to access some of the information available to you. We use pop-ups to highlight important information and take you to our application forms and calculators.
If you prefer not to enable pop-ups from us, you’ll still be able to use Online Services, but you won't be able to see some of the help sections that appear in a pop-up window.
Temporary internet files
Most browsers will store copies of web pages, images and other temporary files for faster viewing later.
To make sure that you’re seeing the latest versions of our pages, we recommend the settings for your 'temporary internet files’ and ‘history' are set to 'automatically'. This means you always see the latest version of our web pages.
To find out how to do this for your browser, go to your browser’s Help section.
You can check all these settings in your browser. If you’re not sure where to find them, go to your browser Help section (usually linked off the main menu).
Firewalls and anti-virus software
A firewall provides a barrier between your computer and any unauthorised access – this means it protects your data, blocks malicious code and prevents unauthorised access to your computer.
Anti-virus software is a computer program that detects and prevents your computer from being attacked by malicious software. It works in conjunction with a firewall.
If you want to find out more about firewalls, antivirus software and security, these companies give more information and make software you can buy/download:
When you use our Online Services, you might see a message recommending you install Trusteer Rapport. Rapport doesn't replace your anti-virus software and firewall – it works alongside them as an additional layer of protection.
If you have any problems with Rapport, visit the Trusteer support site
Whatever software you choose, it’s important to keep it up to date and to scan your computer regularly and take action if the scan detects any threats.

We also recommend that you look at our Security section to see what we do to protect you – and what you can do to protect yourself.
