Diversity and inclusion

We're serious about equality for all. One of our shared goals is to create an inclusive and inspiring workplace, fully representative of our membership and communities we serve. Here are just a few of the things we're doing to show our commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion.

D&I strategy initiatives

  • In 2022, 160-line managers took part in inclusive recruitment training
  • We’ve celebrated a number of D&I awareness dates, including Trans Day of Visibility. As part of this, we’ve encouraged conversations on Engage, which have resulted in over 7,000 views
  • We’ve held a two-day workshop on trust and inclusion with our top leaders. 94% of attendees felt a greater sense of trust and inclusion within the EL and FL community, and 94% of attendees felt more confident in acting in support of the topics in their own areas.

Rainbow network

The Rainbow Network is chaired by Becky Orton and supported by a committee of colleagues from across the Society. The network launched a number of initiatives including Pride 365, a colleague magazine on all things LGBTQ+.

The magazine features a range of colleague stories. They also launched Pride Pals, a group of colleagues that can provide advice, guidance and knowledge to their peers on LGBTQ+ issues.

In April 2023, the Rainbow network committee attended an LGBTQ+ virtual reality museum, hosted by Deloitte in Birmingham.

Pride Month

In June 2023, we are hosting an event on trust and inclusion with our top leaders. As part of this we’ll be holding a panel discussion featuring colleagues from across the Society on the topic of allyship. There is also a ‘sign the Rainbow flag’ activity, in which colleagues at our Binley head office and our branches will be encouraged to sign a giant Pride Progress flag. The Society will deliver a number of initiatives including the following:
  • An in-person ‘Meet the Rainbow Network’ event at our Binley head office, in which colleagues will be able to meet committee members of our Rainbow network
  • The Rainbow Network will also be handing out rainbow lanyards to colleagues to show their visible support for LGBTQ+ inclusion
  • Following last year’s success, we intend to attend Warwickshire Pride again in August 2023 – we hope to see you there.
