A special time at One Day at Christmas

3 minute read

At Coventry Building Society, we care about making life better. Not just for our members and our colleagues, but for our local community too.

That’s why we’re proud that for a second year running, we helped out at this year’s One Day at Christmas. This special event is a way to create magical moments for those who may otherwise spend this time of year alone. It’s a day to look forward to. A chance for new friends to feel like family and where everyone is welcome.

This year, around 300 guests joined us from local groups across Coventry and Warwickshire. The day was filled with joy, kindness and warmth. We had music from the Big Sing choir and X-Factor finalist, Charlie Healy. A delicious lunch was served and everyone enjoyed lots of games, quizzes and dancing.

It was an honour to be part of. And it was heart-warming to hear the buzz of laughter all day long.

We love hearing just how much this event means to the guests who join us.

Donna told us that her father Kevin came along last year. This came after he was diagnosed with vascular dementia and later leukaemia. She said he was invited to attend One Day at Christmas, it was shortly after he was diagnosed with leukaemia and it was lovely to have that last Christmas with him, as two months after he passed away.

Agnes, aged 84, and Rita, aged 68, both from Radford, also joined us again this year. They said it was lovely to be there as a group, I couldn’t ask for any nicer people to spend Christmas with. It was like one big family.

What is One Day at Christmas?

One Day at Christmas is a charity event created by Mash Media in 2017. It aims to bring a Christmas day experience to those who may be alone or isolated at this time of year.

This year’s event took part at the Coventry Building Society Arena on 4 December 2025. Guests were invited through local community partners and support groups. These included our own Coventry Building Society friendship groups; Sky Blues in the Community, Saheli Group, Grapevine, Age UK Coventry & Warwickshire, John White Community Centre, Chat Central and The Haven Nursing Home.
