A team of six Coventry Building Society staff have cycled the 460 kilometres from London to Paris to support our Corporate Charitable Partner, The Royal British Legion.
The riders, from across our branches and Head Office sites, each put themselves forward to tackle the ride, the flagship event in the Legion’s fundraising calendar. Between them they have raised nearly £6,000 so far, which will help the Legion in its mission of supporting veterans, the Service community and their families.
In between riding segments, the team represented the Society at moving memorial ceremonies to honour the fallen of two World Wars in Dunkirk, Abbeville, Beauvais and at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Paris.
“It was a tough ride,” said Phil Sawyer, Member Communications Manager and one of the riders. “We were cycling around 70 miles per day on average. But we had such a warm welcome from the villages we passed through. And the feeling you get when you’re cycling up the Champs d’Elysees toward the Arc – I’ll never forget it.”
