What’s an ISA – how do ISAs work?
An ISA is a tax-free savings account for UK residents aged 16 or over. The Government initiated the ISA scheme to encourage people to save. If you are under 16 you can also get a junior ISA.
With an ISA, all the interest you earn is tax-free but there's a limit on how much you can pay in each tax year. For the tax year ending 5 April 2018, the total annual ISA allowance is £20,000 and for junior ISAs, the annual ISA allowance is £4,128.
