Charity of the Year 2008
We're pleased to announce that our Charity of the Year for 2008 is Macmillan Cancer Support. Our Members voted for Macmillan, from a list of three charities nominated by staff.
Over a twelve-month period we've committed to help Macmillan Cancer Support through a variety of activities, including fundraising, staff volunteering and direct support for local initiatives.

We believe we have a responsibility to support the communities in which our members live. Whether that's by raising funds for good causes, offering more direct support to local organisations or simply by reducing our impact on the environment, we have a part to play.
Our previous Charity of the Year
Our Charity of the Year for 2007 was Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB). Over the year we raised £100,000 through a variety of initiatives, large and small, from our AGM vote, to cake sales. We also made a difference with practical support for local RNIB causes.

Coventry Building Society Charitable Foundation
The Foundation makes donations to registered charities that are based or active within the region covered by Coventry Building Society's branch network. In the ten years since it started the Foundation has supported hundreds of good causes and donated over £550,000.

Educational Support
It's important that younger people are helped to understand money better. As a member of the UK Finance Academy, the Coventry works closely with schools across the West Midlands, mentoring students and providing financial education.
People make the difference
All Coventry staff are given a minimum of a day's paid leave every year to work for the charitable or community initiative of their choice. In addition, a staff matching scheme means that the Society matches funds raised by staff members for charitable causes.
A greener Society
We all know that individually we can do more to reduce our impact on the environment. Our Head Office sites now use 'green' electricity, sourced from wind farms, bio-fuels and hydro-electric power. We've put more information than ever before online to reduce our paper use. Where we do need to print brochures and leaflets we use a high proportion of recycled materials.
We're also working with the Carbon Trust to become more energy efficient, so saving the planet might also mean saving more money that can be passed back to you through our competitive products.
