Security in your handsSecurity in your hands

Like the way you'd lock your doors and never give your house keys to a stranger, you also have a responsibility to keep your valuables secure online - it's all simple stuff really but it works. The more you can do to keep yourself safe the better.

If you think you have been the victim of a fraud or that someone else has access to any of your security details contact us immediately on 0845 766 5522. Alternatively, notify us online.

Staying in touch

One of the simplest things you can do to stay safe online is to stay in touch. Login to Online Services regularly to check your accounts and keep us up-to-date with any changes to your personal details, especially your postal and email addresses.

Keep your details to yourself

Never let anyone know your security details or write them in a letter, email, ‘secure message' or any other correspondence, and never store your Security Details on a computer.

Be careful where you log on

Try not to log on to Online Services in internet cafes, public places like libraries and on unsecured public WIFI connections - you've no idea what security measures they have in place so it's better to be safe than sorry.

Watch out for dodgy emails

This might seem obvious but you'd be surprised how many people get caught out. Don't download attachments from people you don't know - it could be a Trojan. A Trojan is typically an email or webpage that hides a virus that is downloaded to your computer without you being aware of it. Never respond to an email asking for your security details - this is called Phishing. These emails often look genuine and the web page they take you to may also look very much like the real thing. To see how realistic these can be, have a look at this example.

Don't give full details

We'll never ask for your full password online or over the phone, so never ever give it out! And never enter any security details on a web page unless you are absolutely sure it is ours.

Check last log in details

Always check the last login date and time and your image before you enter your password and Grid Card details. If it's not what you usually see, contact us immediately.

Log out when you're done

Always log out of Online Services when you have finished - and never leave your computer unattended whilst you are logged on.

Get the right software

Make sure you have updated anti-virus and firewall software and update your web browser regularly, as well as downloading the free Rapport security software from the financial security experts at Trusteer.

Make your password secure

When choosing your password avoid obvious things such as your date of birth, name or phone number - it also helps to use a mixture of letters and numbers. And make sure you change your password regularly. Find out about what makes a good password here.

Account aggregation

If you pass your security details on to an account aggregation or money manager service you may be liable for any fraud or mistakes that happen on your accounts as a result. You may also find that these services block your access to Online Services.

We strongly recommend that you only ever access your Coventry account(s) by entering your security details directly into our website.
