Security, what we're doing to keep you safe
We really care about your security. So, when you use our Online Services you know that we are taking the greatest care with your money.
As well as background systems and constant monitoring to help keep your money safe and secure, we have the following online security safeguards in place.
Logging into Online Services
When you login, you'll be asked for your Web ID and date of birth, followed by three characters from your password and three numbers from your Grid Card.
Free Rapport security software
We're offering free Rapport security software from the financial security experts at Trusteer to all our online customers. This software provides additional security to help protect against online fraud and identity theft, and is used alongside your anti-virus software and firewall.
Login image
When you first login to Online Services we'll ask you to choose an image. You'll see this image every time you login to let you know you're on our site, rather than a fraudulent one phishing for your details. If you don't see the image or it is not the one you chose, stop what you're doing and get in touch with us immediately.
Last login date
Every time you login we'll display the date and time you last logged on. If you don't think this is correct, stop! Don't enter your passwords or any other information, and contact us immediately.
Automatic log-out
We will automatically log you out of Online Services if we have not detected any activity for 10 minutes - we're assuming you've left your computer unattended. It is always good practice to log-out of Online Services when you have finished what you're doing.
Temporary blocking of access
We'll block all access to your accounts online and over the phone if your security details, including your personal details, are provided incorrectly three consecutive times - it's a good clue that someone may be trying to access your account. If this happens we'll automatically post a form to you so you can set up new password details.
Secure technology
We only ever use secure web pages. We do this by using a technology call SSL - Secure Socket Layers. It enables us to encrypt any information you type in so that it cannot be tampered with as it is sent through to us.
You can tell if you're on a secure page as the page name will begin with HTTPS (the S stands for secure). A yellow padlock will also appear on your browser at the bottom right of your screen.
To be completely reassured that you are on a secure page you should really check the site's security certificate. You can do this by clicking on the yellow padlock symbol. A pop up window will open detailing who owns the security certificate, the expiry date and the issuer.
