Child Trust Fund
Child Trust Fund provided by Family Investments
Give your child plenty to smile about with the Child Trust Fund - starting with £250 free!

The Child Trust Fund is free money from the government for all eligible children regardless of how much their household earns.

There are a wide variety of Child Trust Fund accounts, available from a range of different providers. To be able to offer you the Child Trust Fund we've teamed up with Family Investments. Like us, Family Investments is a mutual organisation, with over 30 years experience in providing straightforward investments for families.

Neither Coventry Building Society nor Family Investments can give advice on the suitability of this CTF account for your child. If you have any doubts please consult a Financial Adviser.

Here's how it works:

  • Every eligible child born on or after 1st September 2002 will receive a voucher to invest in a special Child Trust Fund account.
  • The voucher is worth £250.
  • Vouchers are sent out automatically once child benefit has been applied for.
  • Returns are free from income tax and capital gains tax (tax rules can change).
  • Any money paid into the account is the child's alone, and cannot be withdrawn until the child's 18th birthday, and then only by the child.
  • Parents and others can invest up to a combined total £1200 each year into the account.
  • To benefit from the growth potential of the Stockmarket, the Child Trust Fund account from Family Investments will include investment in stocks and shares. This means its value may fall as well as rise and your child could get back less than is paid in.

When your Child Trust Fund account is open you can:

  • Start to make regular or one-off payments into the account. Payments into your child's Trust Fund account cannot exceed £1,200 in each subscription year, (£10 being the minimum contribution you can make).
  • Increase or decrease regular payments whenever you like, making it an ideal way of saving.

Please note that any money paid into the account can't be withdrawn until the child's 18th birthday, and then only by the child.
