Our online technical help

So that you can get the most of Online Services you need to make sure that your computer is ready.

Please read the technical help information below to find out more about some of the things that you need to consider.

Compromised security

If you think you may have been a victim of fraud or that someone else has access to any of your security details, call us immediately 0800 121 8899.

Browsers

The browser is the software that allows you to access the internet. Our website works best with the following browsers.

  • Internet Explorer 8,9 and 11
  • Google Chrome 23 and above
  • Firefox 13 and above

We strongly recommend using the latest browser version available for your operating system.

Changes to our website

To align with recommended security practices, we're making some important changes to improve the security of our website. These changes will affect your experience online if you're using an old browser or operating system. If you currently access our website using Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) or anything older, these browsers are no longer supported and you'll need to upgrade your browser to continue using the secure areas of our website, including Online Services.

If you're a Windows XP user, then you must have upgraded to service pack 3 as a minimum requirement in order to continue using the secure areas of our site. Anything less than this will mean you can no longer access our secure content.

Windows XP is no longer supported by Microsoft which means that updates are no longer available. For more information visit the Microsoft website Opens website in another window.

To find out what version of browser you are using, visit the WhatBrowser? Opens website in another window website.

To update, simply choose from the browsers below to download the latest version:

Any questions?

If you have difficulties updating your browser, visit Get Safe Online Opens website in another window or GOV.UK Opens website in another window. If you have difficulty using our website and would like to speak to us, please call us on 0800 121 8899.

PC settings

If you would like to use Online Services, it is important that your PC has certain settings enabled:

Javascript

This is usually set up on your computer by default and is often used to make web pages interactive and improve the users experience. Make sure you can use all the features of our website by checking javascript is enabled with our browser check.

Cookies

We take your right to privacy very seriously. We will not disclose information about you or your accounts to anyone, other than where we have your consent, or where we are compelled or allowed by law to do so.

Most browsers will be set up to automatically allow cookies, however, if you have changed your settings, we would recommend that you accept cookies from www.coventrybuildingsociety.co.uk, as this will allow our website to work more efficiently and you will not be able to login if they are disabled.

To find out more about how we use cookies view our Privacy and cookies policy.

Check if cookies are enabled on your machine with our browser check.

Pop ups

A pop up blocker will prevent any pages that appear on a website in a new or 'pop up' window from appearing. These pages usually appear over the page you are viewing.

We recommend that you enable pop-ups from www.coventrybuildingsociety.co.uk, as you will find it easier to access some of the information available to you. We use pop-ups to take you to our application forms, calculators and highlight important information to you.

If you prefer not to enable pop-ups from us, you will still be able to use Online Services, but you won't be able to see some of the help sections that appear in a pop up window.

Check if pop-ups are enabled on your machine with our browser check.

Temporary internet files

Most browsers will store copies of web pages, images and other temporary files for faster viewing later. To ensure that you are seeing the latest versions of our pages we would recommend the settings for your 'temporary internet files and history settings' are set to 'automatically', this will ensure that you always see the latest version of our web pages.

To find out how to do this for your browser to go the browser 'Help' section.

To find out if you will be able to use Online Services with your browser please click on our browser check.

You can also check whether you have any of the above enabled by going to your browser Settings, or if you are not sure where to find these go to your browser Help section, which is usually displayed in the bar at the top of your screen.

Firewalls and anti-virus software

A firewall provides a barrier between your computer and any unauthorised access, i.e. it protects it from hackers and malicious code.

A firewall will help to protect your data from being compromised or your computer being taken over by hackers.

Anti-virus software

Anti-virus software is a computer program that detects and prevents your computer from being attacked by malicious software. It works in conjunction with a firewall.

Take a look at these links if you want to find out more about firewalls, antivirus software and security.

Rapport

This protection is in addition to your anti-virus software and firewall, it doesn't replace them, but works alongside them to provide an additional layer of protection.

You can download Rapport here

Once you have downloaded Rapport, if you experience any problems please visit the Trusteer support site, where you'll find comprehensive help and advice about the software, and also be able to contact a support specialist directly by email at support@trusteer.com.

Whatever software you choose it is important that you keep it up to date, and scan your computer on a regular basis and take appropriate steps in response to any threats it identifies.
