What’s the most significant industry change you’ve seen in the last 10 years?
"We’ve seen so many changes in the BTL market - MMR, PRA, Brexit, taxation changes, stamp duty for landlords, limited company incorporation. Portfolio landlords are our core clients, so we’ve had to absorb a lot but we have the knowledge to deal with it."
What do you think will be the most significant change in the next 10 years?
"In four or five years’ time, there may be a tipping point in the BTL market – even smaller landlords will start to feel the pinch with the tax changes. We’re aware of it and we’re helping landlords make adjustments to the way they deal with their portfolios now."
What’s the most important feature you look for in a lender?
"Service without a doubt. But you also need the products to back it up because, particularly in the specialist arena, you’re competing with other lenders who also give a very high level of service."
Why do you like working with us?
"Your service levels are excellent. And there’s a great perception that you’re a very secure lender to deal with."
What’s the most important pledge for you and why?
"Your 48 hours’ notice pledge is vital. If we didn’t have it, we could lose up to 20 cases at a time and our clients would lose the products we’ve advised them on. It’s crucial to the way we run our business."
Are any of the other pledges important to you and why?
"It’s always difficult for us if someone is offered a better deal in a branch, so your pledge to offer the same products, rates and services is really important."
What’s the best thing about being a mortgage advisor?
"In the BTL world, things are changing and evolving all the time. We’re constantly solving problems, identifying strategies, making landlords aware of changes in the market, adding value – it’s really fulfilling."
What did you want to be when you were 10 years old?
"A footballer – I was mad keen on football and still am."
